FAQ-Teeth Whitening
When will I see results? You will see results immediately following your appointment. Your teeth will continue to whiten after the session, with full results being seen in 24 hours.
How much whiter will I get? It’s hard to say with certainty. Results vary by individual as everyone’s enamel responds differently to the bleaching agents. It also depends on the client’s diet and lifestyle habits and the amount of staining on their teeth. Typically, you will see results of 1-8 shades brighter following an initial session. Additional staining can be removed at follow-up sessions if desired/necessary.
How long will the results last? This depends on your lifestyle and habits. A client who is a heavy coffee drinker, or enjoys red wine, may need a touch-up sooner than one who avoids consuming staining food and drink. Of course, oral hygiene habits also play a role. Brushing 2x a day and flossing daily is recommended and will help prolong your results. Typically, results last anywhere from 6 months to two years. You can begin doing touch-up or “booster” sessions as early as three months after your initial session to get and keep your smile as bright as possible.
How long before an event should I whiten my teeth? You can whiten right up to the day of your event. Just keep in mind that you will need to adjust your diet for a day or two after your appointment, so plan accordingly. To get your smile it’s most bright for your event, we recommend an initial whitening session three months prior to your special day and then a “booster” session right before the event to get you as white as possible.
When and why should I book a follow-up? You can book a follow-up or “booster” appointment to remove any new stains that have accumulated since your initial session, or to remove any deep, stubborn stains that persisted after the first session. You can book a follow-up as early as three months after your initial session. If you are looking for a maintenance plan as part of your self-care routine, we recommend follow-up sessions every 3-6 months. After six months a full whitening session is recommended.
What can I eat and drink following a whitening session? The first 24-48 hours following a whitening session are critical as the teeth are more susceptible to stains following a whitening session. It is important to be conscious of foods and liquids that will stain your teeth during this time. Your technician will provide you with a list of foods to avoid. Generally, don’t take any food or drink that would stain a white shirt for 24-48 hours after a whitening session (the longer the better). Go to our preparation and care section on our website for more information.
Will I experience any sensitivity or side effects? Rarely. The whitening product used at Beam contains a desensitizing agent and is without harsh chemicals or fillers. Some clients with extreme sensitivity may experience minor sensitivity immediately following the procedure which will dissipate over time.
Is teeth whitening safe? Are your products Health Canada approved? Yes. Teeth whitening is a cosmetic procedure and clinical studies show that there are no adverse effects if the teeth and gums are healthy. Teeth whitening should be performed by a certified technician to determine there are no contraindications. After booking, you will be sent a pre-screening questionnaire to be completed prior to your appointment. Your technician will review the information to confirm that you are a good candidate for whitening. Our products our Health Canada approved and registered with the FDA.
I’m pregnant. Can I whiten my teeth? Cosmetic teeth whitening is not recommended for pregnant or nursing mothers.
